Budding young car designers are being urged to get to work creating a car of the future to be in with a chance of winning their own ride-on electric car.

Toy vehicle company Electric Ride on Cars has launched a competition to find out what the drivers of the future think the cars of the future will look like, and is looking for entries from around the UK.

As well as a first prize of a ride-on battery-powered car, four runners-up will each see their initial design refined and brought to life by a professional illustrator.

If your offspring fancies themselves as the next Ian Callum, Gordon Murray or Gerry McGovern, then they simply need to come up with an original design will all the features they think future cars will have.

To enter, young designers need to send in a A4 drawing of their car of the future along with a paragraph giving details of one outstanding feature of the design and why they are particularly proud of it.

The designs can be as wild or outlandish as you like, so whether you’ve got visions of a jet-powered hovercar or a flying car controlled via a games console joypad, get designing.

The competition is open to anyone from the UK aged two to 10, and has a closing date of August 16. To enter you need to submit the drawing and feature explanation online via this website, along with the child and parent’s name and address and contact details.

After the closing date, one overall winner will be chosen, along with two runners-up in two age categories - two to six years old and six to 10 years old.
