Motorsport fans have the chance to bid for their own Formula 1 car and race-worn driver gear, courtesy of a Northamptonshire-based auctioneer.

The show cars are part of an 'unprecedented' online auction by F1Authentics.com to mark the 70th anniversary of F1, which began at Silverstone Circuit in 1950.

Barry Gough, chief executive of The Memento Group, which owns F1Authentics.com and is based in Bugbrooke, said it is an honour to bring this opportunity to F1 fans.

“This is an unprecedented opportunity for F1 fans to get their hands on these extremely rare and fantastic official F1 show cars - the McLaren MP4-21 and the 2018 Renault R.S.18, both of which played prominent roles in their respective seasons, as well as some fantastic driver used race wear from across the 2020 season," he said.

A model of the McLaren MP4-21, which competed in 2006 but with Lewis Hamilton's winning livery from 2008, and an adapted Renault R.S.18, seen racing in the 2018 season, are the headline lots.

Built under license from the teams, both cars have an estimated value in excess of between £100,000-200,000 each, with bids currently around £40,000.

The auction also includes an exclusive collection of products from previous F1 seasons along with current 2020 season race-used driver wear from McLaren, Renault and Alfa Romeo teams.

F1Authentics.com auctions and sells only official memorabilia licensed by teams with products ranging from race-used, test-worn and replica F1 car parts, race wear and helmets.

In addition, it sells re-engineered items from the fabric of the sport to create truly limited edition, event, race or match-linked products and showpieces.

The Silverstone Auction closes shortly after the chequered flag is waved for the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix at Silverstone behind closed doors on August 9.
