West Northamptonshire residents urged to book flu and Covid-19 vaccinations ahead of winter

Residents across West Northamptonshire are being encouraged to book free flu and Covid-19 vaccinations to help protect themselves against serious illness this winter.

The NHS autumn vaccination programme began on October 1, targeting those most vulnerable to complications from respiratory infections.

Free flu vaccinations are available to people aged 65 and over, including those turning 65 by March 31, 2027, pregnant women, people with certain long-term health conditions and residents of older adult care homes.

Unpaid carers, frontline health and social care workers, people experiencing homelessness and those living with someone with a weakened immune system are also eligible.

Covid-19 vaccinations are available to adults aged 75 and over, care home residents and people aged six months to 74 years with weakened immune systems.

Councillor Laura Couse, West Northamptonshire Council's cabinet member for adult care and public health, said: "Getting vaccinated helps protect not only yourself, but also your family, friends and the wider community."

David Johns, the council's director of public health, said vaccination remained one of the most effective ways of preventing serious illness.

Pregnant women are also encouraged to receive whooping cough and respiratory syncytial virus vaccinations where eligible.

Residents do not need an invitation to book, with appointments available through GP surgeries, participating pharmacies and walk-in clinics.

Appointments can be booked at https://bit.ly/NHSLNRBook, while local walk-in clinics can be found at https://bit.ly/LNRwalkinvaccinations.

Anyone uncertain about eligibility should contact their GP or visit the NHS website.
