Northampton General Hospital launches handwashing challenge for children and schools

A challenge to encourage children to wash their hands thoroughly has been launched by Northampton General Hospital.

The #handwashingchallenge has been launched as coronavirus has been labelled a ‘pandemic’.

The challenge asks primary schools, nurseries and childminders to get their children to wash their hands to one of their favorite songs.

Back in 2012, Northampton General launched a video called ‘Handwashing Gangnam Style’, which has been relanched this week.

Children and staff from Upton Meadows Primary School were quick off the mark, being the first group to respond to the challenge with child minders MP Childcare in Holcot following, with their version put to the popular children’s song ‘Baby Shark’ which was soon picked up by the artist Pink Fong.

Clare Searing, Headteacher at Upton Meadows Primary School said: “We had a great time creating the video and it’s important for children to know the correct steps to keep their hands clean.

“Our video sees children from all year groups from reception up to year six along with staff from across the school.”

The handwashing challenge follows national guidance known as the six steps to hand hygiene on how to correctly wash your hands.
