Inspirational: Friends and family rally round courageous Northamptonshire woman living with cancer - raising thousands of pounds for charity

A brave Northamptonshire woman has thanked people for their donations towards a charity close to her heart as friends and family complete 45km ‘Mosey for Mand’.

Amanda Simpson, from West Haddon, was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer stage one in March 2023 but after undergoing a lumpectomy, six rounds of chemotherapy and 10 sessions of radiotherapy she was on the road to recovery and enjoying life to the full.

However August 2025 brought devastating news – the cancer had sadly returned.

After several scans travelling between different hospitals for second and third opinions, lung surgery confirmed stage four, reoccurring triple negative breast cancer in Amanda’s left lung and right hip.

Amanda said: “2026 the year in which I turn 50, the year I have so many plans.

"Staying positive that I will be able to do majority of these lovely things!”

With chemotherapy and immunotherapy beginning at the end of January this year, a party to celebrate Amanda’s 50th year took place in the middle of the month to ‘raise a glass and support this charity close to my heart’.

Amanda, supported by friends and family, set up a fundraising page with a target to raise thousands of pounds for Breast Cancer Now – a charity that’s steered by world-class research and powered by life-changing care.

Amanda, who worked as a manager at Ryehills Farm Day Nursery in West Haddon and is well known and loved by so many in the area, said: “Research in particular is needed to find treatment with better outcomes for women with reoccurring triple negative breast cancer.”

In March 2026, Amanda was taken into hospital to find that the cancer has now spread from her lung and hip to her pelvis, ribs, sternum, right shoulder blade and spine.

The cancer in the bones had caused a fracture in her upper spine and sternum and emergency intense radiotherapy was undertaken.

A strong team of 30 friends and family have been keeping busy training for ‘Mosey for Mand’ – a 45km walk which took place in and around the villages surrounding West Haddon on Saturday June 6.

As the cancer continues to progress, Amanda was discharged from another stay in hospital just in time to see everyone cross finish line ahead of another round of treatment starting on Wednesday June 10.

The start of June saw an incredible £8,000 raised via Amanda’s page for Breast Cancer Now.

At the time of writing, an astonishing £14,000 has nearly been hit from an amazing 538 donations.

Amanda said: “The page will stay open as long as donations keep coming in. A massive thank you in advance.”

Mand’s Mosey – which included printed t-shirts for participants – saw everyone coming together to celebrate their precious Amanda.

Loved ones said: “We would like to name her as one of the most courageous friends ever.”
