Some staff who work in these areas have either been deployed to non-clinical roles on wards or are unable to come to work as they are self-isolating or are in the high-risk criteria.

David Anthony, head of recruitment at St Andrew’s, said: “Our employees are doing an amazing job at keeping our patients safe during this outbreak.

"But much like our colleagues in acute care hospitals, we’re also facing a shortage of staff in some areas.

“Some of our staff have been diverted to help out on our wards to carry out non-clinical tasks such as supporting the delivery of personal protective equipment supplies, which means we’re now facing the prospect of not having enough cleaning and catering staff across our Northampton hospital.
