Sarah Shapcott, from Duston, is hosting her second big fundraising even this year, inspired by her mum.

Sarah found out in May that her mum Sally Spencer, who has now retired from Triology Leisure, had late-stage cancer.

Sally had no common symptoms and presented to the GP with tummy pains and bloating. After several scans, biopsies and blood tests she was diagnosed with endometrial cancer.

Sally has had six rounds of chemotherapy treatment to try and manage the cancer.

After receiving the heartbreaking news, Sarah wanted to do all she could to raise money to help find a cure for the disease, which included hosting a Clubbercise event in September.

Now, one month on, she and 10 other brilliant women are virtually walking 750 miles from Whitmoor in Cornwall to Wick in Scotland to raise further funds for Peaches Womb Cancer Trust.

Sarah chose Whitmoor and Wick as destinations - rather than the more traditional charity walk from Lands End to John O'Groats - because the locations both start with a w for womb.

She said: "Mum was quite a fit lady, she used to swim quite a lot before her diagnosis and she is trying to build her strength up during the walk after chemotherapy sessions.

"Our members are virtually walking and they are adding their miles in each day, and we have raised £550 so far. The plan is to raise £750 to match £1 a mile."

Since Sarah broke the news of her mum's incurable cancer, she has raised a further £3,500 through their clubbercise event, as well as by selling 300 face masks and raffle tickets.

She added: "I just feel like it's a case we need to push, I've had lots of people contacting me in their late teens and it really does not matter what age you are. The message we are trying to push is 'know your normal'.

"I did not think we would ever raise so much money and I've now set up a private Facebook page for women which are going through womb cancer to speak privately."
