Police said a huge thank-you to the Northamptonshire public after a second lockdown weekend without major incident in the county.

And Chief Constable Nick Adderley's "engage, listen and advise" approach has been well received across the county, especially when compared to the number of enforcement notices dished out in other areas.

A spokesman for the Northamptonshire Police said: "We cannot thank our communities enough and everyone in Northamptonshire who is sticking to the guidance to stop the spread of Covid-19.

"Our officers will continue to be out and about and will work alongside the public to help protect the NHS by staying at home, saving lives and preventing the spread of the virus.

"Let's all play our part and get through this together."

Police have the power to issue fines of up to £960 or make arrests for repeat offenders,

But pleas to stay at home despite the warm weather at the weekend were largely heeded in and around Northampton with a few reports of gatherings in parks and open spaces.

Patrolling officers had to move on a small number of groups on The Racecourse while people ignoring closed signs and fences at Pitsford Reservoir and Brixworth Country Park were also given advice on whey they should only be out when necessary under the emergency lockdown laws which came into force a fortnight ago.

Reports of people gathering at Delapre Abbey and using play equipment in Far Cotton were also checked out but both areas were found to be empty.
