Temperatures hitting 20s on day two of lockdown easing

Northamptonshire's police and fire services have issued warnings ahead of temperatures rising into the 20s today (Tuesday).

Weather experts predict record March heat across the county on day two of an easing in lockdown restrictions and the school holidays.

People are allowed to mix in groups of up to six or two households in outdoor spaces for the first time since January.

Thousands are expected to make the most of the mini-heatwave.

But the county's police will be increasing patrols around parks and open spaces and issued stern reminders they will fine anybody not sticking to the rules.

Superintendent Elliot Foskett, silver commander for the Force’s Covid-19 response, said: “We understand this marks an important step forward for the UK but it’s a transition point, not an end to regulations.

“As we have done throughout the pandemic, our officers will continue to engage with people and explain what they are required to do to play their part.

"If they do not comply we will continue to use Fixed Penalty Notices.

“These limits exist to help save lives.The risk of coronavirus has not disappeared, it remains and is as serious as it ever was.

"We all need to continue to play our part and follow the rules through this next phase so that further lifting of restrictions can go ahead at the earliest dates as set out by the Government.

“Bending or breaking the rules now is likely to mean delays to that process, which no-one wants to see.

Northamptonshire Fire & Rescue revealed they dealt with two reports of fires involving disposable BBQs in the space of 20 minutes last night (Monday) and fear more are likely to follow.
