REVEALED: Daventry's hotspots where Covid-19 has claimed most lives

Official statistics have shown for the first time hotspots in Daventry and South Northamptonshire where people are suffering most at the hands of the Covid-19 outbreak.

Data released by the Office for National Statistics pinpointed 23 deaths among District residents between March 1 and April 17 which were linked to the coronavirus bug. Another 24 lives were lost in neighbouring South Northants.

Of those, nine were in Daventry itself — five in the central part of the town, three in the south and one in the north.

It is the most detailed picture of how Covid-19 has been affecting your neighbourhood so far.

Each victim is linked to one of ten geographical areas, each with populations of around 7,000 and shows where victims lived, their sex and the rate of deaths involving Covid-19 per 100,000 people.

In all, 110 people died the in Daventry District Council area during the same 18-day period so the 23 Covid-19 fatalities accounted for just under a quarter of all deaths.

The proportion is lower in South Northants where 117 died of all causes with 22 connected to Covid-19.

Of those 23 Daventry deaths linked to coronavirus, 13 were men and 10 women. In South Northants, 14 out of 22 were men and eight women.

Outside Daventry, the hardest hit areas were villages around Woodford Halse, Byfield and Staverton where five residents died; and around Braunston and Crick where four victims lived.

Across the whole of the Daventry area, the rate of deaths involving coronavirus is lower than the national average. There were 27 deaths linked to the bug per 100,000 people in the District and 24 in South Northamptonshire. Across England and Wales the figure is 36.2 deaths per 100,000.

These figures only count victims who died up to April 17 and whose deaths were registered by April 18.

Latest NHS numbers issued yesterday revealed 277 recorded deaths in Northamptonshire's two main hospitals at Northampton and Kettering as at 5pm on Friday. A further 42 died in the county's care homes between April 10 and April 24 according to ONS data released last week.
