More people were pictured on park equipment over the weekend, despite national and local messages to stay away.

The picture shows the outdoor gym equipment off Billing Brook Road in use yesterday (April 5), despite all park equipment being off limits.

Northampton Borough Council closed all its play areas and made equipment off limits after the Government imposed a national lockdown.

However two people using different pieces of gym equipment were seen in the park area off Billing Brook Road, less than a week after a family was seen in a closed play area in Duston.The council, who issued a statement after the play area incident, has confirmed the same rules apply for the outdoor gym equipment, which should not be used during this time.

On Friday (April 3), Councillor Anna King, council cabinet member for community safety and engagement said: “Our park rangers are patrolling and politely asking anyone they find using the equipment to move on, but they have no power to enforce this, they are relying on common sense and goodwill.

“Using equipment risks transferring coronavirus and could mean life or death for someone.

“I’m urging everyone to please abide by the Government guidance and avoid using this equipment, maintain at least two metres distance from anyone outside their household, and to stay well.”
