Chief medical officer Professor Chris Whitty warned yesterday the number of deaths will continue to rise at an alarming rate.

The Government's Cobra committee meets today and is expected to confirm an extension to the lockdown laws announced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson on March 23 in a bid to halt the spread of the deadly coronavirus bug.
