Number of Covid-19 victims continues to rise at Northampton General Hospital

Northampton is continuing to report increasing numbers of people dying at the town's major hospital after testing positive for Covid-19 victims.

On the day further easing of the Government's lockdown restrictions came into force, NHS data revealed four more fatalities among patients testing positive for the coronavirus at Northampton General Hospital.

Three of those deaths were all on Saturday (May 30) and take the sobering total to 17 over the previous seven days.

That is already ahead of the 15 who died in each of the previous seven-day periods between May 10 and May 16 and May 17 to May 23.

The latest numbers released today only count deaths registered by 5pm last night (Sunday May 31) and NHS analysts warn it can take up to four days for formalities to be completed. That means more deaths between May 27 and May 30 are potentially still waiting to add to the numbers.

In all, 243 people have now died at Northampton General Hospital with three more victims announced today taking the death toll to 180 at the county's other acute NHS Trust at Kettering.

Office for National Statistics also data revealed a further 111 victims among residents of Northamptonshire care homes up until May 25, taking the known total county-wide to 534. That figure is set to rise still further when when more deaths from last week are added to the toll tomorrrow (Tuesday June 2).

The number of positive tests in Northamptonshire is set to pass 1,500 later today. Yesterday's figures showed a rise of 13 up to 9am on Sunday (May 31) — a total of 1,498.
