Colonel Tom Moore has captured the nations hearts during lockdown by raising more than £32 million by walking laps of his garden for NHS Charities Together.
To mark his 100th birthday, he was honoured by a special RAF flypast yesterday when Hurricane and a Spitfire flew from RAF Coningbsy, in Lincolnshire, 68 miles to his house in Marston Moretaine, Bedfordshire.
The war veteran was was appointed as an honorary colonel by the Queen to mark his special birthday.
And Northampton pulled out all the stops, too.
Yesterday, was the sixth week of the national Clap for Carers campaign, which sees homeowners each week take to their doorsteps to clap and drum pots and pans for two minutes to appreciate our NHS frontline workers battling the coronavirus.
Mat Lawrence, from MLE Pyrotechnics Limited in Daventry, helped to light the light tower up last week to show Northampton General Hospital how much we appreciate them.
This week, he put on a second light display, this time to pay tribute not only to the incredible team at NGH but Tom Moore's astounding fundraising efforts on his special birthday.
He said: "We decided to display '100 TOM' on the tower in recognition of his birthday and the amazing amount of money he has helped raise for the NHS.
"This week we also installed lasers on the top of the tower, which could be seen for miles.
"One of the beams was aimed directly over Northampton General Hospital."
