Northampton's emergency services delivered a very special Clap for Carers message direct to hospital workers last night.

And one of the town's most famous landmarks Delapre Abbey was lit up in NHS blue as part of the weekly tribute to frontline staff at Northampton General and other workers in the health service around the country.

An emotional video from the car park at Northampton General showed police and firefighters leading the salute as thousands across the town and country came out at 8pm, clapping singing, banging and generally making as much noise as they could to say 'thank you'.

Meanwhile, staff at the Cliftonville site said their own thank you to remarkable 99-year-old war veteran, Captain Tom Moore.

Captain Tom, from Bedfordshire, has now raised more than £18million for the NHS by walking 100 laps of his back garden and raise £1,000 before his 100th birthday later this month.

He reached the target yesterday (Thursday April 16) but pledged to carry on as long as the donations keep coming in to his justgiving page.

The 900-year-old Delapre Abbey was turned into its own spectacular light show by Fabtronic Event Production, based in Moulton Park, who gave their time free of charge to support the Abbey and the Clap for Carers cause.
