A class of year eight pupils from Northamptonshire's Guilsborough Academy have undertaken a mission to create face masks for the hotel team at Milton Keynes Central Travelodge.

Travelodge is currently operating just over 50 hotels across the UK, providing accommodation for critical workers, the NHS workforce and vulnerable groups during these unprecedented times.

These Travelodge hotels include hotspots in Milton Keynes and Northampton. Around 20 Travelodge hotels are open close to major hospitals and the company is supporting around 30 local councils around the country by providing accommodation for the less vulnerable.

It has led to the Year 8 pupils of Guilsborough Academy creating personalised face masks for the team at Milton Keynes Central Travelodge.

The students raided their textile department and with guidance from their textiles teacher, Mrs Nicky Lauder, they produced 50 masks in one day.

Hotel manager for Milton Keynes Central Travelodge Dawn Knight said: ‘‘My team and I are very grateful to the Year 8 pupils from Guilsborough Academy for making these fabulous masks.

"These masks are a beautiful gesture. It is also a great example of how communities are coming together during these difficult times. We are wearing our masks with pride as we work around the clock to provide comfy rooms for critical workers and vulnerable groups.”

Angela Lakey, Vice Principal, Northampton Guilsborough Academy said: “I thought it would be a very valuable life lesson to show the class the importance of safety during the Covid-19 outbreak and supporting others.

"Dawn and her team have been doing an amazing job during the Covid-19 lockdown and I know it has not been easy working in these unprecedented times. Therefore I thought our masks would make them smile.”
