A musician from Northampton has written and recorded a song to honour NHS workers who are battling the coronavirus pandemic.

Lisa Longrigg, who has taught music and singing for 15 years, created the original song entitled ‘Save Lives’ while her and her family are following Government advice to stay at home.

The mum, who has two boys aged three and four and also helps to care for her 88-year-old grandmother, penned lyrics that mirror how she feels about the virus outbreak.

The song includes lines such as ‘stay home, stay safe, save lives’ and ‘to all those helping us through, we thank you’.

Lisa, who lives in Abington Vale, said: “I had a bit of time on my own so I came up with this song.

“It’s a show of appreciation for what the NHS workers are doing and music is a way to bring everyone together.

“My mum works for the NHS and I have a lot of nurse friends and I can’t imagine what they are going through at the moment and it has been so heartwarming to see what the community has been doing.

“So this is for all those who are helping us through.”

The 38-year-old, who has her own recording studio, wrote the ‘Save Lives’ in just a few hours on Sunday (March 29) when she managed to find a couple of hours to herself.

Lisa added: “I’ve used it as a way to help do something while we are at home and it was an escape for me for a few hours in a quiet space at home.

“Being at the piano and singing is my way of relaxing and it was just how I was feeling at the time.

“I just put my feelings of what is happening and what we’re seeing on the news everyday into a song.

“If people can take something from that then that’s great.

“And it will raise money that will go to a charity that is helping NHS staff and volunteers caring for those with COVID-19.”

Lisa has released the song and YouTube and has attached a JustGiving page, which is raising money for NHS Charities Together helping those who are caring for COVID-19 patients.

After the song was released on Sunday night, it had already raised £310 by Monday morning (March 30).
