A mum from Northampton has taken it upon herself to organise a fun dress-up day for children to take part in while they have to stay at home.

Lisa Allen, who has three children, two who are grown-up with children of their own, wanted to give her younger child, her grandchildren and other youngsters something to look forward to.

The 51-year-old came up with the idea of a day where children dress as their ‘COVID heroes’, whether that is a nurse, a shop worker or a farmer.

Lisa, from Kingsley, said: “I was chatting to my grandson’s mum and she said my grandson had made a comment about shopkeepers being heroes.

“We said we should try and do something to celebrate all the heroes with everything going on .

“All the children are missing out on so much, like birthday parties and that sort of thing. This should be something fun for them.”

On Friday (April 3), Lisa is encouraging all children to dress up as their heroes who are helping fight the current pandemic.

She added: “We’re encouraging children to dress up as their heroes whether that’s the postman, farmers, shop workers. They can dress up as any of the COVID heroes.

“It’s just something for children to look forward to and gives them a chance to get creative to make their outfit.”

The mum is also keen to use the day to honour those who are working to help beat the pandemic.

Lisa said: “On Thursday it was so heartwarming to see everyone come together to clap for the NHS but most children are in bed by 8pm so they missed out on it.

“Hopefully this will help children understand what is going on as well.”

Lisa is hoping that the dress-up day could become more regular if the first on is a success.

To get involved, visit the Facebook page that Lisa has set up for for parents to talk about outfits and post pictures of their children when they dress up on Friday.
