Northampton Film Festival organisers are offering £300 to the best movie made during coronavirus isolation

The organisers of the postponed Northampton Film Festival are offering at-home filmmakers the chance to win £300 with a new competition.

Screen Northants' event, Northampton Film Festival 2020: Kind of a Big Deal, was due to take place in May but has been put on hold by the coronavirus pandemic.

With everyone forced to stay indoors, the team has put together the Kind of a Big Deal In My Living Room contest for movies made without breaking any government guidelines.

"It could be an animation, a documentary, a drama, crime thriller, comedy sketch, an art/experimental film, anything," the blog post about the contest says.

"It should be shot just in your house, just with the people and stuff already in your house, assuming they aren’t showing any signs of illness and need to isolated within the household.

"You can involve people in other households as long as they also have a connection to Northants or the majority is made by someone with a Northants connection.

"As long as you don’t physically meet any of them – so sending files, music or whatever via the internet is fine. But equally you can make it entirely on your own if you want."

The new competition runs alongside the short film contest, which has been accepted entries with Northamptonshire links for a few weeks already.
