Public Health Northamptonshire has today (September 4) confirmed that Northampton’s Covid-19 status has been downgraded as the number of positive cases decrease.
The borough was labelled an ‘area of intervention’ on August 21 a week after an outbreak of nearly 300 cases was announced at Moulton Park-based food warehouse, Greencore.

Hide AdWhen the status of ‘area of intervention’ was introduced, per 100,000 people, the borough had 748 positive tests.
Now the number of cases has fallen and in the most up to date data from the week ending August 30, there were 19.5 cases per 100,000 of the population in the town.
As a result of the ‘significant decrease’, Northampton has now been reduced to an ‘area of enhanced support’.
This status is the middle of the three, with ‘area of intervention’ being the highest and ‘area of concern’ being the lowest.

Hide AdSpeaking at the weekly press conference, director of Public Health Northamptonshire, Lucy Whightman, said: “The borough has seen a significant decrease since last week.
“This is thanks to the hard work of various teams and the public who have accessed testing and have adhered to the extra measures.
“There is a reduction in the number of cases but there are still more than we would want locally.”
For data from the week ending August 30, there were 145 additional cases across the county.
