A couple from Northampton who were due to get married on their tenth anniversary of being together has had their wedding cancelled.

Rebecca Long and Thomas Hansom, from Kingsthorpe, picked June 13 this year as it was a special date for them, but they are now unsure when they will get married.

Due to Government advice on weddings during the coronavirus pandemic, the couple’s wedding at Dodmoor House near Weedon Bec has had to be postponed.

Rebecca said: “We chose June 13 because that’s when we will have been together for ten years.

“We’ve been planning it for about a year and now we don’t really know when we will get married.

“It’s a bit rubbish but we are trying to stay positive. It’s not like we can never get married.

“We won’t have chosen the date, but we just have to deal with it.”

In difficult times, Rebecca said she is extremely thankful to Dodmoor House for their support.

Rebecca said: “They are having to be completely shut and when we rang last week they said they are working their way through couples chronologically from now until the summer.

“Dodmoor have been so helpful and reassuring us that it will happen one day and that they will do their best to help us.

“We’ve had suit and dress fittings cancelled so we couldn’t keep June 13 anyway. We wouldn’t be able to do what we need or want to do.”

The couple had already sent out their invites and had RSVPs for their summer wedding, as well as organising flowers and a photographer.

Rebecca said: “We have told everyone that it is not going to happen, but if we change the date we will need to figure out what we are going to do.

“We had all our suppliers sorted too so they will need to know if we have a new date.

“Most of them have been really good and are letting us rebook it if they are free and we won’t get charged.

“But some small suppliers do need to charge a cancellation fee to keep themselves afloat during this time. They cannot guarantee what will happen.

“We’re hoping we won’t lose too much money.”

As well as having their wedding day cancelled, Rebecca and Thomas are also waiting to hear if they can get refunds for Air B&Bs and flights that were booked for their stag and hen dos.

“It’s all a big question mark,” Rebecca added.
