A Northampton Indian restaurant is searching for a ‘coronavirus hero’ to award a year’s supply of curry.

Saffron, in Castilian Street, will reopen on Sunday (April 12) for takeaway only, after temporary closure.

As it reopens, the restaurant will launch its ‘hunt for a hero’ competition in order to thank a key worker who has made a difference in the fight against the pandemic.

Managing director Naz Islam said: “Whether it’s a doctor or a nurse, a binman, an ambulance driver or a shop assistant we want to celebrate all those who are putting their lives on the line to keep us safe during this outbreak.

“The dedication and commitment of these key workers has been incredible and we want to say thank you to someone who has gone above and beyond at this awful time.

“All of us know someone who is fighting on the frontline in the war against COVID-19 so we’re asking our customers to help us in our Hunt for a Hero.”

When the restaurant reopens at 5pm on Easter Sunday, it will continue to offer half price meals to all NHS and emergency services staff, as well as free, contactless delivery for full priced orders within five miles of the restaurant.

To nominate a key worker to win the £500 worth of curry, send a message to Saffron’s Facebook page with the name of the person you are nominating, your email address and a brief explanation of why you think they deserve to win.
