In pictures: Northampton town centre looks eerily quiet during lockdown

The usual hustle and bustle of the town is nowhere to be seen

As the country battles through the unprecedented period of the COVID-19 pandemic by staying inside, the streets of our usually busy and bustling town are left empty, abandoned and alone.

With schools, restaurants, gyms and many shops closed, on Government orders, Northampton town centre is eerily quiet.

While the whole town, county and country is in lockdown, members of the public are only allowed to leave their homes to travel to and from work if necessary, for exercise once a day, to buy necessities and for medical need or caring for the vulnerable.

For many this means there is little need to visit the town centre. The market is all but empty, there is no hustle and bustle on Abington Street and there is nobody anywhere near the Guildhall.

Blue skies can be seen over Northampton and the sun is shining, but these pictures below are a clear sign that our town is listening to Government advice and taking COVID-19 seriously.
