Five more patients have died after testing positive for Covid-19 in Northamptonshire's two main hospitals.

Figures released on Monday (May 18) revealed four deaths recorded by Kettering General Hospital in the 24 hours up to 5pm the previous day with one more at Northamptonshire General.

That takes the the total to 356 at the county's two NHS trusts.

Front line NHS staff battling the Covid-19 crisis at the Cliftonville site have now seen 212 patients killed by the deadly bug since it claimed the first victims in the county back on March 16. A further 144 have died at Kettering.

These latest numbers relate to data collated at 5pm on Sunday (May 17) and only include hospitalised cases. The Office for National Statistics has also revealed a total of 81 coronavirus-related deaths in Northamptonshire care homes up to May 8, taking the number of known victims to 437.

The number of positive Covid-19 tests in the county stood at 1,281 when the latest data was calculated at 9am on Sunday (Mary 18), a rise of 20 in the previous 24 hours.
