NHS England has confirmed that four more patients have sadly died after testing positive for coronavirus at Kettering General Hospital.

The grim tally brings the official number of people to have died at the hospital to nine.

One of the latest patients confirmed to have died of the virus died on March 16, with a further three on Sunday (March 29).

Previous figures have included the death of Craig Ruston on March 16, as well as deaths on March 23, 26, 28 and 30.

The figures are yet not thought to include Derek Gunn from Thrapston, who died on Tuesday evening aged 91.

The news came as the NHS said that the number of people in the UK to have died as a result of the pandemic in the past 24 hours was 561 - meaning the total number of deaths in the UK now stands at 2,921.

In today's figures two more deaths were confirmed at neighbouring Northampton General Hospital. bringing the county total to 20.

A KGH spokesman did not give any more details on the ages of those who died, but said: "Sadly, we can confirm that four patients being cared for at our hospital, who had tested positive for COVID-19, have died. All had underlying health conditions.

Our thoughts and condolences are with the families and friends of those patients at this very difficult and distressing time."
