Covid-19 death toll approaching 300 at Northamptonshire's two main hospitals

Eight more patients at Northamptonshire's two main hospitals have been added to the number of Covid-19 victims.

Bosses at the Northampton General Hospital site confirmed the four who died between Friday (May 1) and Sunday (May 3) after testing positive for the bug are included in the latest Government figures released today.

Another four victims died in Kettering General Hospital over the same period.

Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust's medical director Matthew Metcalfe said: “Sadly we can confirm that a further four patients who had been tested positive for Covid-19 have died.

"Their families have been informed and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time."

Frontline NHS staff battling the Covid-19 crisis in Northampton have now seen 173 patients die since a 92-year-old became the first victim at the Cliftonville site on March 16.

A further 116 have died at Kettering General Hospital taking the toll county-wide to 290 when the latest data was collated at 5pm yesterday (Monday May 4).

These figures only include hospitalised cases, however and do not count coronavirus-related deaths in county care homes and other locations.

The number of positive tests in Northamptonshire reached 1,060 according to figures released yesterday.
