Those doctors and nurses under high demand and working tirelessly to deal with Covid-19 cases also often do not have time for lunch.

Instant noodles, porridge sachets, mug shots, breakfast biscuits, energy drinks, sweets, cereal bars and fruit have been delivered by hospital volunteers.

The volunteer services at NGH tweeted: "Due to some wards having restricted access, the staff in PPE are unable to leave the wards for the duration of their shift.

"Northamptonshire Health Charity has organised these snack boxes to help them through. A massive thanks to all front line staff #TeamNGH."

Anyone who wants to donate food for the packages should email [email protected] or call 01604 626927.
