32 children self-isolating as one pupil tests positive for Covid-19 at Northampton primary school

A whole class at a local primary school are self-isolating after one pupil tested positive for Covid-19.

Blackthorn Primary School in the Eastern District has confirmed that 32 pupils and five members of staff were told to self-isolate from today (September 11).

All will remain at home for two weeks and children will access remote learning.

Northampton Primary Academy Trust Partnership, which runs the school, has been in contact with Public Health England. The authority is satisfied by the measures in place and has allowed the rest of the school to remain open.

A trust spokeswoman said: "Thirty-two children from Year 5 and five members of staff will be self-isolating until Friday 25 September, 2020 following advice from Public Health England.

"Public Health England were satisfied that the protective measures put in place at the school are adequate.

"Within one hour of the bubble being informed to self-isolate, twenty-nine of the thirty-two children were already accessing remote learning at home."
