A headteacher of a local school is looking forward to welcoming back around 180 pupils that have had to self-isolate.

The whole of Year 7 at Thomas Becket Catholic School in Becket Way, Boothville had to stay at home for two weeks after a single case of Covid-19.

Mark McLaughlin, headteacher, said: “All our community are disappointed that we have to educate our new Year 7 from home until September 22 following advice from Public Health England following a positive Covid 19 test.

“The year group had made a great start to the year and it was wonderful to see such happy faces around the school again.

“These decisions are in line with government guidelines and a part of the contingency in our risk assessment - we have a really strong remote learning plan with weekly contact with families providing video lessons and feeding back on student work.

“We cannot wait for our students to return on Tuesday, but there is nothing more important than keeping our students safe.”
