Can a private Covid test help me to travel?
Whether you need to travel for work, family bereavement or even a holiday, many countries including Cyprus, Pakistan, China, Hong Kong, Dubai, Kuwait, Egypt and Romania to name a few, are all insisting that travellers take a COVID test before flying.
For these countries and many more, you will need to be able to document evidence of a recent negative test from an approved laboratory, before you will be allowed to board the plane, normally within 72 to 96 hours prior to departure.
Now a Hertfordshire pharmacy is offering private COVID testing for anyone who needs an urgent result.
MEDIX Pharmacy, which has offered full pharmacy services including travel vaccines from Stevenage Old Town for the past ten years, is now offering private COVID PCR testing.
The firm is offering a by-appointment only testing service in the pharmacy, available seven days a week for travellers and also for people who are symptomatic.
With results normally available within 24-48 hours, the private tests are likely to prove popular with people who want to travel abroad, as airlines are starting to refuse NHS testing results; they are also suitable for people who wish to return to work quicker.
Jeff Cheung, who runs the pharmacy along with his brother Daniel, says they are proud to be offering this valuable service to the community.
“We think it will appeal to many people. While travel is restricted for many right now, there are essential journeys happening, and it is vital to ensure people have access to reliable tests to help them travel safely and help society control COVID-19.”
The Medix Pharmacy COVID Team aims to try to test on the day requested, and have results back within 48 hour but often results are back the next day from testing. With such a quick turnaround on results, many people are thrilled to have such a reliable and accessible service.
The costs for the private tests are £170 for the COVID PCR antigen test.
Medix Pharmacy has been in town for 10 years, and offers a full range of normal pharmacy services, including regular testing and travel immunisation such as yellow fever as well as NHS services for dispensing.
