'Business as usual' at Northampton General Hospital despite reports of blood test shortages

Northampton General Hospital say it is 'business as usual' despite a reports of a shortage of chemicals used in blood tests.

National NHS provider Roche revealed earlier this week that problems with its distribution centre has led to "a very significant drop" in supplies

But the NGH NHS Trust confirmed they currently have all the chemicals they need and that tests are still going ahead as planned.

A spokesman said: "Problems with an NHS supplier Roche has led to a temporary shortage in some of the chemicals we use to process test results. Roche are working urgently to resolve this.

"All tests for patients in Northamptonshire are continuing as normal so please attend your appointment as requested.

"If your appointment needs to be cancelled, you will be contacted.

"We are doing everything we can to reduce the impact on our patients, including working locally with other NHS organisations to share these chemicals wherever we can.

Reports earlier this week revealed the Swiss diagnostics company were blaming problems with a move to a new warehouse in Sussex for a supply chain failure which led to the shortages.
