Government guidance states that students studying courses such as medicine and dentistry, veterinary science, education, social work and subjects allied to medicine and health can resume in-person teaching.

Students studying any other course must remain at home.

A University of Northampton spokesman said: “In accordance with government instruction to universities across the country, the University of Northampton has begun limited face-to-face teaching on specific courses including those aligned to health, social care, education and policing.

"Students who do not study these courses have been asked to postpone their return to campus and start their term online until mid-February as requested by the Universities Minister.
