A pair of secondary school students have secured a five-week mentoring programme with a Northampton Saints star, despite the lockdown preventing them from training.

Seb Davies and Max Gjorka who are both in year nine at Moulton School were selected by the head of PE to take part in the programme that has linked them with Saints fullback George Furbank.

As part of the Mintridge Foundation programme, which is a charity dedicated to enhancing young people’s life skills through sport, the keen rugby players will have live, online, one to one sessions with ambassador George.

The sessions will cover topics such as identity, confidence, self-care and performance at school as well as out on the pitch.

Mulberry Homes, a local housing developer, is funding the programme for both students as part of its Distinctly Local campaign.

The campaign aims to support local charities or organisations every month and the programme has continued throughout the coronavirus pandemic focusing on good causes that can make a difference to communities coping with the ‘new normal’.

“It’s been tough for families to adapt to the new normal, often with everyone at home all together and ordinary routines disrupted.

“Children in particular will have found the absence of school, sporting activities and interaction with their peers a challenge, which is why we were so impressed with the Mintridge Foundation programme.

“Ambassadors like George, will really help to inspire and motivate the students and we look forward to hearing how Seb and Max get on with the sessions.”

Alex Wallace, managing director of the Mintridge Foundation added: “To have such support from an organisation like Mulberry Homes is more important than ever to enable our inspirational ambassadors to continue to support students with both their physical and mental wellbeing during this unprecedented time. We are grateful to everyone involved.”
