Statutory notice published setting out plans to dissolve Moulton College Corporation ahead of merger

A statutory notice has been published setting out plans to formally dissolve the Corporation of Moulton College and transfer its property, rights and liabilities to Northampton College as part of a proposed merger.

The notice, published by the Corporation of Moulton College, sets out the legal process which would see the two Northamptonshire colleges brought together from January 1, 2027.

Under the proposals, Moulton College's property, rights and liabilities would be transferred to the Corporation of Northampton College before the Moulton College corporation is dissolved.

The proposed date for the dissolution is January 1 next year.

Northampton College is separately proposing to the Secretary of State that its corporation changes its name from the same date, with the merged organisation set to be known as Northampton and Moulton Colleges Group.

The statutory notice states: “Dissolution of the Corporation of Moulton College is proposed in order that it may merge with Northampton College.

“The merger will create a strong institution delivering high-quality education and skills training for learners and employers across Northamptonshire.”

The notice comes after a six-week public consultation on the proposed merger opened on Monday (August 10).

If approved, the merger would create one of the largest further education providers in the region, with more than 12,000 learners across five campuses and around 1,300 staff.

Both colleges have said they would continue to operate under their existing brands, despite becoming part of the new Northampton and Moulton Colleges Group.

No final decision on the merger has yet been made, with feedback from the consultation set to be considered by the governing bodies of both colleges before the next steps are determined.

Students, staff, residents, businesses, employers and community organisations are among those being invited to have their say.

A series of public consultation events will take place during September at campuses in Moulton, Higham Ferrers, Northampton and Daventry, alongside an online webinar.

The consultation will remain open until Monday, September 21, with a summary of the feedback received expected to be published in October.

People can respond through the dedicated merger consultation page on Moulton College's website, by email at [email protected] or in writing to the Executive Office at Moulton College.
