Northampton school holiday camp back in watchdog's good graces after correcting serious errors in DBS checks

A Northampton summer holiday camp has been forgiven by inspectors after taking 'swift, effective' action to straighten out a serious error in its safeguarding duties.

The Super Camps out-of-school daycare, based at Quinton House School in Upton, earned an otherwise glowing inspection by Ofsted in August last year - except for where inspectors found it had not been carrying out DBS checks on staff.

It meant management had failed to formally look into the backgrounds of any staff working at the holiday club for children aged between 4 and 11.

Despite praise for the camp's range of activities and the way children enjoyed playing there, inspectors had no choice but to give the camp an 'inadequate' rating.

But now, Ofsted have revisited Super Camp - and inspectors are once again happy with its safeguarding measures.

In a new report based on an inspection in February, the watchdog said: "Staff have a secure understanding of safeguarding procedures... Effective recruitment procedures are in place to ensure that all staff are suitable to work with children.

"[Super Camps] has taken swift and effective action to address the areas that required improvement identified at the last inspection.

"The well-qualified and experienced managers and staff work well together as a team. Staff are enthusiastic and positive role models, and quickly develop a strong rapport with children.

"Children spend time in an extremely positive, fun and relaxed environment."
