Northampton Academy students perform famous Mozart Opera at Cambridge Corn Exchange
Last week, students at Northampton Academy enjoyed the extraordinary opportunity to perform Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute on the renowned stage of the Cambridge Corn Exchange.
Their performance is the culmination of a project delivered by United Learning in partnership with the Royal Ballet and Opera (RBO) to introduce students to opera. Over the past few months, students have been working hard to be able to showcase their talents, creativity and confidence on the iconic stage through their performance of the famous opera, as part of the choir or orchestra.
At the performance, students joined together with their peers from other United Learning schools to put on a mesmerizing show. Having spent the past academic year learning the repertoire of The Magic Flute, the school choir was excited to showcase their hard work to the packed audience at the Cambridge Corn Exchange. They were also joined by former Northampton Academy student Thomas who narrated the performance in style.
In the lead up to the performance, students were lucky enough to participate in workshops with professional opera singers and artists from the Royal Opera House, giving them exciting experience in high-calibre musical and dramatic performance. Some students have even been able to contribute creatively to the production through helping with the costume and set design for the performance.

Michelle Henry-Moor, Head of Performing Arts at Northampton Academy, said:
"This was an unforgettable experience for our students — a true celebration of music! It was inspiring to see opera made accessible to everyone. Our pupils have put in incredible effort learning the complex songs and harmonies, all under the brilliant guidance of Mr. Williams, our amazing music teacher."
