More than 500 students explore future careers at Silverstone Park

More than 500 secondary school students from across the region were introduced to careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) during a major event at Silverstone Park.

The Silverstone Park Futures Schools Programme welcomed Year 8 and Year 9 pupils from five schools to The Wing at Silverstone Circuit on April 28. Students took part in workshops, panel discussions and interactive sessions led by businesses and industry professionals from the Silverstone Technology Cluster.

The initiative aimed to encourage more young people to consider careers in STEM subjects at a time when the UK faces a growing skills shortage across engineering and advanced industries.

Organisers also highlighted the importance of improving diversity within engineering, where women currently make up around one in six of the workforce. Female role models from across the sector spoke to students through the Women’s Innovation Network, helping to challenge perceptions around careers in technology and engineering.

Sebastian Hayes, asset management director at Federated Hermes on behalf of Silverstone Park, said the programme aimed to make STEM careers feel “genuinely within reach” for young people.

Silverstone Park is home to more than 90 businesses and over 2,700 workers across high-performance engineering and advanced manufacturing sectors.
