A group of local students who were supposed to receive their overall grades on Thursday (August 13) are still waiting to find out their fate.

More than 25 Northampton College students who studied different health and social care qualifications are, today (August 17), still waiting to receive their final grades.

From a total of 59 students at the college, 31 students were given their results on Thursday. However, 28 are still waiting to hear.

Northampton College has said that it submitted the grades and all the necessary declarations for all students by the June deadline.

The responsibility was then handed over to the health and social care awarding body - NCFE/Cache to provide the students with their results.

As they have still not received their final results, students and parents have been left with heightened stress and anxiety and with concerns that university places might be lost.

A parent of a Northampton College student who is waiting for her Technical Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care results, says they are ‘being left in the dark.’

Louise Eaton added: “My daughter is now one of 20 remaining students who have been told their results are 'lost' in the system somewhere between Cache/NCFE and the college.

“We have not even been given a date by when they will arrive.

“After all their hard work and anxiety about taking up their university places, they have been left 'high and dry', without reasonable explanation at all from the awarding organisation.

“This has stripped our young people's confidence in the education system.

“In a meritocratic world, where staying in education is usually favourable they have nothing to show for their hard work and are fearing they will lose their university places or apprenticeships.”

One student who is waiting for her Level Three health and social care results so she can go onto study for her ‘dream job’, added: “It is a very worrying time and in my opinion it’s unfair on students to be under this much stress.

“No information was given to students about this mix up and when I phoned to talk to someone and many different stories were told.

“The amount of students affected by this is astonishing. We are sitting waiting to know our results with no time frame and we’re worried we will lose our university places in the throws of this.”

Since the absence of the results became apparent, the college has been contacting the awarding body to find out what has happened and is also offering to call universities on behalf of the affected students.

Patrick Leavey, deputy principal at Northampton College, said: “We first became aware of an issue regarding a number of missing exam results for students on our Health and Social Care programme last Thursday.

“Ever since then, our teams have been working around the clock to get answers from the awarding body, NCFE CACHE, and trace the missing results.

“Unfortunately, despite continual requests for information, we still do not have those results.

“We share the frustration and anger of all those students affected and we are doing all we can as a college to get an explanation from the awarding body.

“There were 59 students in total on the Health and Social Care programme due to receive their results last Thursday. A total of 31 got their results, 28 are still waiting.

“Responsibility for this lies squarely at the feet of the awarding body.

“We submitted grades for all 59 students and signed all the necessary declarations before the deadline of June 24.

“We did all that was asked of us. It appears that NCFE CACHE has simply not processed all of the submissions.

“We have been continuously contacting NCFE CACHE to see what the problem is and to get it resolved. We have submitted the information they requested, including the names and ID of those students affected. This was done last Thursday.

“We still have no explanation and we are trying to escalate it urgently.

“All those students affected have been informed and asked to contact our Quality Office if they would like us to contact their university on their behalf.

“We are committed to doing whatever it takes to help all those students affected by this and will continue to push for the answers we all so urgently need.”

The awarding body has not offered an explanation as to why the results are missing, but they have said they are working hard to get results out as soon as possible.

A NCFE spokeswoman said: "We issued Level 3 results for over 15,000 students last week.

"We are though aware of a small number of cases in which students did not receive their results last week as expected.

"In those cases, we are working intensively with college colleagues to access the necessary information and confirm results as quickly as possible.

"Whilst we are doing that work, we are also supporting colleges in their conversations with university admissions departments where that is helpful for a given student."
