Quinton House School hailed its GCSE students’ hard work, resilience and determination during such unprecedented times as they collected their results today (Thursday, August 20).

Grades have been decided by teachers after exams were cancelled because of Covid-19 and the government's U-turn over its controversial statistical modelling.

However some students will still be waiting for final grades as the awarding bodies for BTECs and Cambridge Nationals take more time to adjust their calculations.

Principal Jo Storey said: “It is a pleasure to celebrate with students and staff today and we are immensely proud of our students’ achievements.

"Our GCSE achievements reflect hard work and commitment shown by both students and staff and I wish students immense success as they move on to the next stage of their educational journey.”

During the summer term when students were unable to be physically on site, the Upton independent school created a programme specifically for year 11 students called ‘inspiring futures’.

The course was set up to help students further develop the key skills, knowledge and understanding they need for stand- out success and it was extremely well-received, according to the school.

Among the year 11 students celebrating their results are many who have spent their entire school career at Quinton House School.

Having joined in nursery and to be celebrating their GCSEs as young adults, Mrs Storey said it is a wonderful testament to the school that many of these students have decided to continue their education further at Quinton by joining the sixth form in September.

The sixth form is being relaunched in September with state-of-the-art, purpose-built facilities to be unveiled when the new term begins.

Mrs Storey said the school is thrilled to see so many students coming back for the next step in their education and is delighted the 2020/21 cohort is almost full.
