94.3 per cent get their first choice for first day at big school

Get the tissues ready ... around 8,000 parents of four and five-year-olds will find out TODAY that their little ones will be going to their first choice Northamptonshire primary school in September.

More than 8,400 places in reception year groups across the county have been allocated to pupils with 94.3 per cent of applicants securing a place at their first preference school.

That is an increase from 93.1 per cent in 2020.

The number of families getting places at one of their preferred schools is 98.9 per cent — a slight increase from 98.6 per cent in 2020.

Parents and carers who applied for primary school places online and within the deadline are able to check their school offer on the councils' website from today (Friday)

Additionally, the number of pupils allocated to their first preference for junior school — from year three onwards — is 99.5 per cent this year which is also up from 98.9 per cent last year.

Those not successful in gaining a place at their preferred school, parents have the right to appeal through the independent admission appeals process.

The next round of primary school place allocations, for late applicants, will take place next month.
