But students can choose to used their mock exam results or resit the proper test in the autumn to improve their grades as part of the government's 'triple lock'.

The West Haddon Road school's principal, Julie Swales, said some pupils have not been awarded their centre-assessed grades yet but will be supported in getting the best score possible.

“We are genuinely delighted with this group of students," she said.

“Not only are they an incredibly talented, hardworking and caring group of young people, they have worked tirelessly since their first day in our school so that they would be in the best position to open the door to the next stage of their career.

“That is why, although we are so sad that we haven’t been able to celebrate their hard work and successes in the usual way, we are immensely proud of the fact that so many of our students will be going on to do amazing things in the coming months.

“From leading universities to some fantastic apprenticeships, our students are going to places where they will be able to make a real and positive impact."

Ms Swales also thanked staff and the parents and carers of students who have all been on a 'rollercoaster journey' since the school closed in March.

“We hope that they can enjoy today with our students," she added.
