Serenity Sexual Assault Referral Centre: support for anyone affected by sexual violence

As communities mark the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence, Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NHFT) is reminding the local community that specialist support is available through its Serenity Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC).

What is Serenity?

Serenity is an NHFT service offering practical and emotional support to anyone affected by sexual violence or abuse, including men, women and children. Services include:

  • 24/7 helpline and advice
  • Forensic medical examinations (with or without police involvement)
  • Emergency contraception and pregnancy testing
  • STI screening and treatment
  • Support for partners, family, and friends

You do not need to report to the police to access Serenity’s services. Self-referrals are welcome, and all care is confidential.

Recent figures from the Office for National Statistics show that one in 30 women in the UK experienced rape or sexual assault in the past year. No one should face this alone. Serenity provides a safe, confidential space where people can access help, advice and long-term support.

Fay Wickett, Service Manager for Serenity, said:

"At Serenity, we understand how difficult it can be to take that first step. Our team is here to provide a safe, confidential space where people feel listened to and supported - whether they choose to involve the police or not. No one should feel alone after experiencing sexual violence or abuse, and we want everyone to know that help is available when they are ready."

Support for children and young people

Serenity also works with the East Midlands Children and Young People’s Sexual Assault Service (EMCYPSAS), providing medical care and therapeutic support for under-18s.

Single point of access: 0800 183 0023 (available 24/7).
