Membership of the West Northants Green Party has passed 1,000 for the first time, following a recent surge in support locally and nationally.

The local party confirmed the milestone this week, saying more than 50 new members joined within just two days after the Green Party’s recent parliamentary win in Gorton and Denton.

The increase also comes as YouGov polling places the Greens second nationally for voting intention.

New members have signed up from across West Northamptonshire, including Towcester, Brackley and Northampton, as well as rural villages, with organisers reporting growth across a wide range of ages and backgrounds.

A spokesperson for West Northants Green Party, said the moment felt significant.

“There’s a real sense that something is shifting in politics right now.

“We’re meeting people on doorsteps who feel frustrated with how things are going, whether it’s the cost of living, housing or public services. People tell us they want something positive and community-focused, they want to feel hope.

“Passing 1,000 members locally shows that energy is building here in West Northants too.”

The branch had been largely inactive in recent years but says it has reorganised with a new committee and plans to expand campaigning across the area.

Sue and Dave Pearson, co-chairs of the local party, said the growth would allow the group to become more visible in local communities.

“For many families, environmental concerns have to come second to everyday pressures like energy bills and food prices. We understand that.

“With more members getting involved, we’re better placed to campaign on the issues that matter most to people locally.”

The party says it plans to continue community engagement events across the district in the coming months.
