Northamptonshire Community Foundation community hero of the week

Dostiyo Asian Women and Girls Organisation supports women and families across Northamptonshire, creating inclusive spaces that promote wellbeing, confidence and community connection. Their work brings people together from diverse backgrounds, helping to reduce isolation and strengthen community relationships.
With the support of recent funding, Dostiyo developed and delivered a Community Café, building on their existing Community Fridge provision. The café provided a safe and welcoming space for people of all faiths and cultures to connect, access support and take part in activities that promote wellbeing and integration.
A £4,668.25 grant from The Queen’s Institute Fund, awarded via Northamptonshire Community Foundation, enabled the delivery of weekly Tea & Talk sessions, cultural sharing events and confidence-building workshops. These activities encouraged open conversations around wellbeing, celebrated different traditions and helped participants develop communication and leadership skills.
The project also created opportunities for volunteering, helping individuals build confidence, teamwork and a sense of belonging. As a result, many participants reported feeling more supported, connected and confident, with improved wellbeing and stronger community ties.
Northamptonshire Community Foundation is the county’s largest independent grant maker, having given more than £24 million in grants since its inception in 2001. This year marks an exciting milestone for NCF – 25 years of inspiring local giving for local needs. Building on this, NCF is also looking 25 years ahead, with bold ambition for a fairer, thriving and more connected county for generations to come. Their latest Impact Report is ready to read here.
