Daventry Contact ensures that people living in poverty receive the furniture, household items and white goods they need but cannot afford.

Daventry Contact has two main aims: to reduce waste by collecting unwanted furniture from local residents, and to reduce the impact of poverty in Northamptonshire by providing free furniture to people in need.

A lot of the furniture donated to Daventry Contact would otherwise end up in landfill but can have a hugely positive impact on the charity’s beneficiaries. The charity’s volunteer team clean, repair and restore all furniture donated to them before it is delivered to people and families experiencing poverty.

Free, well-restored furniture means that a person who was previously sleeping on the floor can now enjoy a better, more comfortable night’s sleep in a bed, and a person who was unable to buy a fridge before can now store their food safely. For residents dealing with the stress and pressure of financial hardship, these changes make a real difference.

To support Daventry Contact’s operations, the charity was awarded a grant from the Constance Travis Endowment Fund for Northamptonshire, which is managed by Northamptonshire Community Foundation.

Northamptonshire Community Foundation is the county’s leading independent grant-making charity, providing much-needed and often life-changing grants to some of Northamptonshire’s most in-need residents. Since its inception in 2001, the foundation has awarded more than £24 million in grants.
