A Northamptonshire-based community boating charity is extending an invitation to invite new volunteers to join them to help continue their work in introducing the delights and benefits of our local region’s canals to community groups and organisations.

LNBP Community Boating are a non-profit charity who offer the opportunity for community groups of all ages and interest both locally and from all over the UK and overseas to enjoy residential short breaks and holidays on the two full-sized canal bots they operate from moorings at Braunston, near Daventry, Northamptonshire.

As a non-profit charity, they are reliant on the efforts of a team of dedicated volunteers who give their time to ensure the smooth running of the organisation and the canal boat experiences they provide, something which they have done for over 45 years. With that in mind, they are keen to welcome new volunteer members to their ranks with another busy season in front of them.

The arrival of a New Year and January often makes us think about what we would like to do or achieve for the year ahead and any changes we would like to make in our lives. Could this be your year, your time and opportunity to give something back to your local community or a charitable organisation? If so, andyou are 16 years old and over, LNBP would love to hear from you so why not consider getting involved?

They have a wide range of opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds, from boat handling and skippering the boats, fundraising, general admin or just being a friendly face to welcome our group guests. Many of the LNBP team bring their varied skill sets and experiences from their current or previous professional roles with them to great effect.

Speaking about the opportunities available, LNBP’s Chairperson Paul Iverson said, “We continue to have a great team at LNBP but as with all things we would love to even more people involved to distribute the duties canal side, on the boats and behind the scenes more evenly.

There are so many benefits to volunteering with us and the New Year presents the ideal opportunity to join us ahead of another boating season in prospect”.

Whilst LNBP warmly welcome interest from people of all ages, in particular, LNBP would love to hear from anyone aged between 16 and 25 and would encourage them to get in touch to see how they can be involved; in particular anyone with social media graphic design skills, or an interest in photography and videography.

Iverson added, “We are always looking towards the future and especially with our 50th anniversary being not that far away, therefore it would be great to have more younger members join us and to potentially take us forward into the future.

As well as the opportunity to make new friends, there is a lot to gain from volunteering with us with chance to learn new skills or further develop existing ones, gain practical work experience or work towards other qualifications such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award. So if this is of interest or you know someone who might be interested, please do get in touch; we would love to hear from and talk to you”.
