Northampton strengthens its AI ambitions with successful Cursor Hackathon

Community-driven initiative brings together students, developers and industry partners to advance local innovation Northampton’s growing reputation as a centre for digital innovation received a further boost this week as the Cursor Hackathon brought together students, developers, founders and technology professionals for an evening dedicated to artificial intelligence and rapid product development.
Northampton’s technology community came together last week as more than 100 people registered for a community-led AI hackathon aimed at encouraging innovation and collaboration in the town.
The Cursor Hackathon, hosted at the University of Northampton, saw 60 active participants form 18 teams to design and build artificial intelligence-powered projects within a three-hour session. The event was organised by Cursor Ambassador Rahulkrishnan R A and his team, who said the initiative was designed to create opportunities for students, professionals and aspiring entrepreneurs to connect and experiment with emerging technology.
Participants worked intensively throughout the evening, developing prototypes using modern AI tools, before presenting their solutions to a panel of three judges. Projects ranged from productivity applications to socially focused concepts, demonstrating both technical creativity and practical thinking.

The hackathon was supported by various Sponsors and Partners. Sponsors contributed venue support, prizes and technical resources to ensure the event ran smoothly.
A team of volunteers assisted with coordination and logistics on the night, while the organising team oversaw delivery of the event. The organisers extended their thanks to the volunteers, judges, sponsors, and partners for their contributions in making the evening a success.
Feedback from attendees highlighted the positive atmosphere and strong community spirit, with many participants expressing interest in taking part in future events. Although the three-hour format encouraged rapid building and focused teamwork, organisers indicated that a longer, full-day hackathon is now being considered for June to allow deeper product development and wider participation.
The event reflects a wider ambition to position Northampton as a growing centre for digital skills and artificial intelligence innovation, bringing together local talent and industry partners to support the next generation of technology leaders.
Further details of upcoming events are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
