Northamptonshire MP, Mike Reader, has praised the ‘exceptional standards of care’ being delivered to patients by Three Shires Hospital in a visit on Thursday 6th November. The MP for Northampton South visited the hospital run by Circle Health Group to understand more about the work the hospital does to support patients across the county.

The 49-bed hospital located close to the centre of Northampton offers fast access to a range of treatments to NHS, privately insured and self-pay patients. In the last 15 years, the privately run hospital has been an essential part of the local healthcare economy, working closely with NHS commissioners to improve access and slash waiting times in Mr Reader’s constituency.

Following a recent inspection by the hospital regulator, the CQC, Three Shires Hospital is now rated ‘Outstanding’ overall, with an individual rating of ‘Outstanding’ in the fields of ‘Effective’ and ‘Caring’. Specialising in orthopaedic, general surgery, gynaecology, urology, cardiology and ENT surgery, staff and doctors at Three Shires Hospital carried out over 8,000 operations last year.

On arrival, Mr Reader was taken on a tour of the hospital, led by Executive Director Matthew Cook and saw first-hand the state-of-the-art facilities available to patients. The tour also included a visit to the specialist diagnostic facilities including MRI and CT scanners available at the hospital. During the tour, Mr Reader was fascinated to hear about the different ways patients from across his constituency were accessing treatment at services at the hospital.

Mr Reader also stopped to meet staff who shared how proud they were of the contribution they and the hospital make to the delivery of care locally. Mr Reader also heard case studies from patients who had faced waiting many months for treatment but were able to access it within 18 weeks at Three Shires Hospital.

The visit concluded with Mr Reader meeting the hospital’s senior management to discuss his priorities for health locally and to hear more about how Three Shires Hospital support NHS patients.

Commenting on his visit, Mr Reader said:

“It was great to meet the team at Three Shires and see the brilliant work they’re doing. The Outstanding rating is really well deserved. Health remains a top issue for people in Northampton, so it was great to visit another of the many health services doing their bit locally."
