Northampton resident Diane Bettles has had her wish granted to be able to access and enjoy her garden again, thanks to a unique 20th anniversary celebration by home care provider, Caremark.

Diane, who receives regular home care support from the team at Caremark Northampton, was selected as one of just 20 recipients across the UK to have a personal wish granted through the company’s Care for a Wish initiative – a national campaign launched to celebrate Caremark’s 20th anniversary.

Diane is a keen gardener who has spent years curating unusual and beautiful plants in her home garden, which she describes as her “therapy and joy”. However, since losing her husband and becoming increasingly dependent on a wheelchair, Diane was no longer able to access the garden she loves. Confined indoors, she could only look at her plants through her window.

Caremark waved its magic wand and created a wheelchair-friendly patio area, giving Diane safe access to her garden. Over the coming months, raised planters will be added to the garden so Diane is able to tend to her plants once again.

Commenting on having her wish come true, Diane said: “It is amazing to have been chosen for this wish. Thanks to Caremark, my carer and I can enjoy gardening together. It feels like I have my independence back and a renewed sense of purpose. Gardening has always been like my therapy so thank you Caremark for allowing me to continue with my passion.”

David Glover, Joint CEO of Caremark, talked about the importance of the initiative: “It’s incredibly humbling to be able to grant these wishes for the people we care for. Every single entry we received was meaningful, and the ones we’ve been able to fulfil have been especially poignant. These wishes are all about the opportunity for our customers to have moments of joy and connection and create new memories that will be cherished.

“It speaks to the very essence of who we are as a home care provider — committed to enhancing quality of life, not just meeting care needs. This campaign isn’t only a celebration of 20 years – it’s a reminder of why we do what we do. We’re here to support people’s wellbeing, dignity and joy as we all believe life is for living, not just existing.”
