Marching to success
A Northampton based youth marching band returned from the British Youth Band Association’s National Championships with the trophies for best visual display, best marching, best dance group, best percussion section and with the runners-up cup for the Championship Class.
Liberty Youth Band’s show was called “The Sun Will Rise Again’. Playing tunes by Stevie Wonder, Elton John, The Beatles and John Denver they told the story of a community waiting years for the sun to shine.
The band is made up of 4 sections - brass/woodwind, drums, tuned percussion and dance - and they are now welcoming new members aged 12-16 for their next season. There are no auditions and instruments are loaned free of charge.
Rehearsals take place at Northampton International Academy in the town centre.
Dale Willis, the band’s leader was delighted with the result:
“We had a challenging run-in to the finals as the recent floods filled our instrument storage room with water….but everyone rallied round, got the instruments cleaned up, and the band put on a great performance.”
